Happy Friday my friends! I hope you are all having a lovely day and hopefully have some exciting plans for the coming weekend. Remember, the week is over (for most of us at least) and it’s time to relax and rejuvenate and ultimately prepare ourselves for the coming week.
I was meditating today are the importance of self care. After my blah day yesterday, and my sort of continuing blah day today, I realized how important it is to continue being compassionate and nurturing towards myself, especially when I’m really not in the mood to do so. I also came to the conclusion that the practice of self care is never ending. We have to take care of ourselves, by being patient, kind, and loving, on a consistent basis aka it does not stop when we start to feel ok or strong or well or whatever other excuse we tend to make when we start feeling like we can begin to lay off the self care and beating ourselves up again.
The Self Love Daily Challenge #009: Continually practice self care regardless of whether you feel ok or not.
Today’s challenge is all about being aware of the fact that self care is a continual thing. We don’t stop doing it just because we feel good. We honor ourselves by taking care of ourselves regardless of whether we are doing great or not. So today make sure you take time to take care of your needs. Take a few breaths. Take a break. Show yourself patience or compassion. Whatever it is, make sure you do it.
I know there are some days when I am feeling pretty good and most of the time I take it as a go-ahead to push myself even further. “OH you’re feeling strong today? OK work harder. Don’t take a break! Keep going! YOU CAN DO IT!” And of course, it never fails…I wind up feeling so crappy towards the end of it because I skipped a vital step to my own well being. I didn’t take care of myself. Instead of slowing it down, I pushed myself even harder. Instead of saying, “hey you deserve some praise,” I tell myself instead that I could’ve done better.
This is totally wrong! Wrong! WRONG! Make sure you give yourself self care regardless of whether you feel like superwoman or man or not. Regardless of whether you think you can do it without taking a break. Regardless of whether you think you could’ve pushed yourself further than you did. Self care is not an option, it is a mandatory thing. And in order for us to feel good and healthy and positive about life, we have to practice self care daily. We cannot skip it. We cannot take a break from it. We cannot put it off or push it aside. We must do it DAILY.
I know this was a short post today. But it doesn’t mean that it isn’t an important one. I simply have had a throbbing headache all afternoon and didn’t have much time to write out a full length post today until now. (see i’m giving myself self care) But I couldn’t skip a day as part of the challenge, so I wrote anyway. And just a bit of warning, some days are going to be shorter than others and it’s most likely because, I, too, need a break for some self care. And that’s totally OK.
